Bestop was founded in 1954 and is a division of Magna International. Bestop produces premium Jeep, Truck, & UTV products.  Bestop is the most widely recognized brand for Soft Goods in the market.  We provide OEM soft tops directly to Chrysler Jeep. 

The master scheduler is responsible for establishing, reviewing and maintaining the master production schedule in alignment with Sales, Inventory, and Operations.  Establishing the master schedule will involve working closely with operations leaders, material planners, production planners, and others to coordinate manufacturing plans that achieve the company objectives relative to customer service, efficient resource/capacity utilization, and inventory investment.   The master scheduler will be responsible for analyzing scenarios that balance demand and supply while optimizing inventory and minimizing the impact of demand volatility.

Requirements for the Position:

  1. Plans and prepares production schedules for manufacture of industrial or commercial products: Draws up master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders.
  2. Analyzes production specifications and plant capacity data and performs mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, tools, and human resource requirements.
  3. Controls inventory levels and accuracy to service customer orders with the least amount of inventory and the quickest release to manufacturing. 
  4. Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
  5. Control safety stock level to ensure service levels are maintained.
  6. Coordinate plants to ensure schedule adherence.
  7. Ensures the proper delivery of materials and services for production according to customer and production commitments.
  8. Interacts with plant management and supply chain management to maintain accuracy of schedule dates and communicates any production delays.

  1. Ability to effectively make complex decisions with limited time and information and can determine decision making criteria based on priorities.
  2. Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines with internal and external resources.
  3. Strong analytical capabilities, with a basic understanding of statistical analysis techniques.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills, independent problem resolution, proven leadership ability, and the ability to manage the requirement of others.
  5. Comfortable leading discussion and debate both within peer group and with other departments and management.
  6. Data access/retrieval skills with extensive experience in data analysis, data manipulation using MS Excel and/or other tools as provided.
  7. Working knowledge of ERP system.

 Experience and Skills Required:

  1. BS/BA degree
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in analyzing data relating to product forecasting, master scheduling, or shipment forecasting.
  3. Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.

General Purpose:

The primary focus of this position is to effectively execute the creation of a product level forecast and assist in the operations of production scheduling, capacity planning, production release, in-process execution and inventory management.

The Forecast Planner is also responsible for leading areas of the planning processes, assisting vendors on capacity and priority control, and providing communication to the various Pearl Izumi departments, most importantly, by leading weekly consensus building meetings regarding the master schedules with the executive team.

  • B.A./B.S. degree required
  • APICS Certification preferred

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Forecasting & Planning:

  • Create and maintain a product level forecast for Spring and Fall seasons.
  • Responsible for managing company master production schedules for all divisions and achieving general production planning calendar timelines.
  • Adjusts the conflicting balance of Pearl Izumi’s customer service vs. inventory levels – 2 of our company’s major objectives; service levels set at an industry leading 94% while maintaining a lean inventory within company guidelines
  • Constantly administers the four levers of operational excellence – Priority Planning, Capacity Planning, Priority Control and Capacity Control, including frequent direct negotiation with vendors
  • Solely responsible for the planning production timing for vendors, managing multiple factories located internationally and domestically
  • Accountable for $25+ million in planning and purchasing each season with less than 25% excess production
  • Key role in the organizing the planning phases of the clearly defined Sales and Ops process, including master plan meetings with executive team members where a consensus must be reached with the key departments toward common & conflicting objectives
  • Organize the individual forecasts of distributors into a divisional level forecast useable by our operations system
  • Balance requirements of various departments from a product visibility and delivery viewpoint; includes planning updates, availability reports, stock on hand reporting, PMI support, sales program support, and special projects as necessary for US and Intl divisions
  • May coordinate activities of others throughout the company to ensure balance of inventory and delivery
  • Provide input to various fiscal reports; including costing, revenue expectations, cash flow requirements, etc.
  • Frequently adjust and manage the optimal size percentage curves for all active skus

 

Purchasing Coordination:

  • Maintain the critical balance of capacity & requirements planning and prioritization.
  • Manage the accumulation, response and negotiation regarding leadtimes, order minimums and shipment minimums with all vendors each season
  • Create buy plan releases as dictated by lead-times and master plans
  • Manage and resolve challenges that are faced at the vendor level, including PO delays, development delays, materials delivery issues, etc.  to create win-win solutions.  May include negotiation of additional costs related to above.
  • In collaboration with the sales teams, work to track and expedite outstanding purchase orders to ensure continual product availability.
  • Communicate seasonal forecasts & bi-weekly updates to vendor forecast.
  • All other tasks as related to support of the teams global supply chain execution

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES *Lead planning organization to produce an effective plan that can be used for procurement, production scheduling, distribution planning and capital expenditures.

Five to seven years' experience in a manufacturing environment. Minimum 5 years' experience in 3 or more of the following S&OP process areas (Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Inventory Planning, Master Production Scheduling, Sales Forecasting, Materials Management, Warehouse Management, Customer Service, Logistics/Distribution). Five years practical experience with MRP-II concepts and integrating forecasting (independent requirements), planning, and scheduling activities within a computerized ERP environment.

 

Education/Experience

 

Bachelor's degree in logistics, inventory management/procurement, industrial management, engineering or equivalent combination of both education and experience with strong business knowledge and experience required.

 

Computer Skills

 

JDE experience highly desired.

Certificates and Licenses

 APICS CPIM preferred.

BASIC FUNCTION:
