Lead Planner

Position Overview
The Lead Planner is the lead/senior team member of a team that is responsible to plan, organize and control production of assigned products at contract manufacturers.
Responsibilities
Team Lead
- In partnership with the department manager, oversee the work of a small team of planners
- Track and report on Key Performance Indicators
- Participate in workload allocation
- Monitor team’s progress on tasks and projects
- Provide coverage when team members are absent
- Identify opportunities for efficiency, cost savings and process improvement
General Responsibilities
- Allocate, plan and maintain appropriate inventory stocking levels
- Quote, purchase, plan, organize and control production of assigned products from established, approved suppliers, adhering to the objectives of quality, delivery, and price in support of the operation
- Coordinate and negotiate best price and delivery with supplier through understanding of sourcing, materials, logistics and manufacturing functions throughout the product's life cycle
- Negotiate and place written purchase orders per authorized requisitions and/or plan based on historical and forecasted data
- Prepare and update daily and weekly schedules in coordination with master schedule while ensuring all dates are transparent and accurate through all systems
- Communicate production scheduling changes related to customer orders
- Expedite delivery in past due or other abnormal delivery situations, and notify appropriate personnel accordingly
- Monitor and review supplier performance, and make recommendations to the Production Manager relative to supplier development, resourcing, etc.
- Maintain, monitor and track all assigned outside vendor inventories for components, sub-assemblies and finished goods
- Monitor and confirm accuracy of assigned SKU's bill of materials through all systems
- Maintain complete active component inventory at target levels through appropriate planning and inventory balancing across the network
- Monitor "excess" component inventories - perform root cause analysis of obsolescence and implementation of corrective/preventative action
- Aid with inventories and cycle counts as requested
- Ensure material availability dates are updated and accurate through all systems
- Perform other inventory management transactions as needed (e.g., scrap)
- Support cost reduction through effective and efficient capacity utilization
- Adhere to all company policies and safety regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain or related field
- At least four years of related experience, including experience in production planning.
- At least one year of experience as a supervisor, lead or senior member of a team with responsibility to oversee the work of others
- Must possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, with superior organization and follow-up skills. Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Proactive mindset with a proven ability to problem-solve in alignment with company goals and standards
- Must demonstrate strong PC and MS Office suite skills with an intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Excel and Access
- QuickBooks knowledge a plus
