Primary Purpose of Position:
Manages the sourcing function as directed.
Essential Functions:
- Arranges the timely and cost competitive procurement of a broad, highly mixed and/or technical category of materials, equipment, parts, services, supplies, and other items, that may involve complex consideration, engineering changes, and limited sources of supply. May include international joint ventures and licensees.
- May establish inventory status with plant production control department. Controls and maintains inventory levels to meet established management guidelines.
- May administer and direct projected production schedules with group manufacturing staff and plant production control departments.
- Directs and guides the performance of the buyer(s), coordinator(s), and administrative staff to assure on schedule, timely completion of work relative to quality, service, volume, and competitive selection process.
- Directs and guides the development and investigation of new vendors. Recommends use of alternate sources to protect supply, and recommends discontinuance of sources not deemed reliable or not in conformance with company quality requirements.
- Provides requests for quotes and bid invitations. Solicits bids from vendors. Evaluates proposals and bids and coordinates selection process.
- Analyzes, constructs, and evaluates contracts.
- Develops pricing strategies and action plans. Negotiates price, terms, and delivery schedules for materials, equipment, parts, services, and supplies.
- Directs the input of purchase order information into the group procurement system. Reviews orders and forecasts to ensure compliance with supply agreements and rebate conditions.
- Participates in the maintenance of the company’s systems which supports the proper receipt of purchased material to ensures the proper payment of all material receipts.
- Directs and maintains required selected purchasing records and reports.
- Administers the coordination of orders, specifications, drawings, contracts, and amendments with project managers and suppliers. Directs the follow-up process to assure timely procurement and on schedule delivery of assigned items at a minimum cost, consistent with required specifications, quality, and volume.
- Facilitates meetings for company personnel and vendors and acts as liaison to negotiate and make decisions relative to quality, service, pricing, and delivery.
- Directs, creates, maintains, and provides regular forecasts, mark-to-market updates, monthly volume commitment reports and provides data as needed for quarterly and annual reports.
- Ensures purchasing follow-up activities for test material for the technical service and research and development departments. Recommends and coordinates alternative sources of supply.
- Maintains communication with Ball’s manufacturing plants to arrange blanket and national contracts for common tooling and materials.
- Develops and implements delivery of risk mitigation strategies.
- Establishes and develops relationships with key external suppliers.
Position Requirements:
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college level education or work-related experience.
- Job related experience for 5 year(s) minimum
- Certifications/Licenses/Other:
- Working knowledge of the following areas:
