Primary purpose of the position:

Reporting to the Director of IBP and Customer Service for Aluminum Cups, the Manager of Transportation and Logistics will have responsibility for managing freight and logistics within the Aluminum Cups business.

Essential Responsible Areas:

  • Creates and implements the overall strategy for transportation and logistics for the Aluminum Cups business. This strategy must be fit for purpose for the current context, but designed to accommodate future effectiveness and growth in the spaces of logistics and warehousing. Guides Cups team and partners to effectively capture identified opportunities.
  • Responsible for establishing and ensuring that the transportation and logistics needs of the Aluminum Cups business are addressed across all modes of transport, but with primary focus on: 3PL partnerships, full truckload, warehousing, less than truckload, intermodal, Customs brokerage, specialized equipment and ocean shipments.
  • Focuses on standard operating process creation, implementation and continuous improvement and effective leverage of technology.
  • Liaises with plant and carriers to coordinate weekly shipments to customers.
  • Leads fellow Cups team members and 3PL partners effectively through influence.
  • Partners with the Director of IBP and Customer Service and the Manager, Forecasting and Planning, to develop and implement long-term strategy for supply chain improvement and deliver improved operating results.
  • Collaborates with customers, carriers and 3PL to identify waste and works through the Sales team to implement opportunities for shared cost savings.
  • Responsible for defining the strategic direction of the Transportation and Logistics function and ensuring the day-to-day achievement of the supply chain deliverables.
  • Shares responsibility for national/local tender processes, vendor selection and management, and development of future models of collaboration.
  • Defines transportation technology strategy, identifies optimal supplier and technology platform, and implements transportation management solution (TMS).
  • Steers third party service provider toward load optimization and carrier strategy compliance via proper utilization of Ball’s TMS.
  • Works with Director of IBP and Customer Service to establish budgets for the function and implements the necessary controls to keep expenditures within budgetary limitations. Responsible for execution of opportunity targets.
  • Fosters a winning culture and process driven environment, to motivate the team to deliver success consistently.

Position Requirement & competencies:

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or graduate degree level education or work-related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field and extensive experience in a manufacturing environment that has implemented and sustained Lean activities within Supply Chain preferred
  • Prefer knowledge and experience in consumer packaging industry, food or beverage distribution. Other industries with national, just in time delivery models will also be considered.
  • 10-12 years of progressively increasing responsibility in Operations and Supply Chain or in combination with consulting experience.
  • Experience servicing retail customers is required.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining a TMS solution.
  • Experience in national supply chain and distribution issues, including market issues and headwinds that could affect a consumer packaging company.
  • Experience in developing relationships and motivating teams, with or without formal authority
  • Experience in establishing and leading Supply Chain programs in conjunction with IT and business teams.
  • Extensive project management experience including planning, controlling and implementing global supply chain projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience working across all levels of an organization.
  • Experience driving performance through metrics and use of data to drive continuous process improvement.
  • Extensive and detailed knowledge of US transportation, customs requirements and import/export protocols and requirements
