Purchasing Manager

General Description:
This position reports to the Director of Supply Chain / Materials Management. The role is responsible for leading the sourcing of materials and suppliers, selection of vendors, purchasing and inventory of raw materials and supplies.
Essential Functions:
- Implement best practices in procurement and strategic sourcing.
- Identify and qualify suppliers of materials, equipment, and/or supplies.
- Lead material cost reduction efforts, pricing negotiations, delivery, and other issues with suppliers.
- Ensures locations have the components and supplies needed to meet production goals and manage those in a controlled environment.
- Develop and manage supplier relationship management program.
- Manage purchasing contracts for assigned suppliers.
- Evaluates and analyzes purchasing trends and price to identify cost efficiences.
- Collaborate to maintain current list of strategic and bottle-neck suppliers
- Mentor and coach junior members of the supply chain staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provides day-to-day support, guidance and supervision of the purchasing staff.
EXPERIENCE AND NECESSARY SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Pharmaceutical background preferred
- Manufacturing experience a plus
- Proven negotiation skills
- Regulated industry background
- 5 years of related management experience is required
- APICS or other purchasing certification strongly desired
- Working knowledge of cGMP guidelines / standards
- Proficient ERP software skills preferred
- High level of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Strong team player
