Job Overview
The buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms for the organization.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Purchase components based on supply/demand and other inventory control parameters.
- Qualify vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services.
- Manages delivery expectations.
- Tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information.
- May establish, evaluate and maintain supplier partnerships and programs, i.e., consignment, stocking.
- May assist in sourcing new suppliers
- Obtain and analyze quotes and make recommendations on best sourcing selection, including
- Monitors inventory levels to achieve corporate goals while maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction.
- Partner with planners to manage replenishment orders and ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained and appropriate planning parameters are in place.
- Perform daily reviews of inventory as required.
- Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of potential problems.
- Generate and analyze ERP reports of target areas requiring more focus, such as past due purchase orders, or items with insufficient inventory.
- Participate in inter-departmental and cross-functional teams working towards continuous process improvement, elimination of wastes, and cost savings.
- Solve tactical issues with urgency.
- Work with Accounts Payable as required resolving issues on suppliers’ invoices.
- Upon sourcing decision, perform all required supplier, part and inventory set-ups.
- Other duties as assigned
Non – Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Support the updating of all purchasing related SOP’s.
- Identify and analyze potential process improvement opportunities within supply chain.
Qualifications
- Four-year Degree (B.S/B.A.) preferred or equivalent from four-year college or technical school or 2+ year(s) related purchasing experience and/or training.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and creative problem solving.
- Self-motivated with the ability to achieve desired results with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
- Proficient and accurate with Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Experience working with detailed product line forecasts and familiarity with the sales and operations planning function.
- Ability to calculate figures, percentages and data.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with individuals internal and external to the organization. The employee frequently is required to move about the facility. The employee may be required to lift up-to 15 lbs. by themselves.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with typical business hours. It may reasonably require additional hours during the week and weekend; specific requirements will be determined with Manager. Occasional remote work may be allowed.
Travel
Less than 15% of overnight travel. Position may require local travel between two buildings less than 2 miles apart.
